The Publication Committee of the World Aquaculture Society is seeking applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief of World Aquaculture magazine. Current Editor-in-Chief Robert Stickney has indicated to the Board of WAS that he will retire from this position in December, 2011. The WAS wishes to identify a successor to Dr. Stickney who will maintain the excellence in quality and relevance that Dr. Stickney has provided through his leadership over the past 13 years. In the production of the World Aquaculture Magazine there are three staff members who receive a modest stipend: Editor-in-Chief, Layout Editor, Editor. The value of the stipend is periodically reviewed by the Board of Directors and adjusted as appropriate.

The job description of this position (from the World Aquaculture Society’s Policy, Rules and Regulations) is as follows:

Editor-in-Chief:

1.Responsible for overall activities associated with publication of the magazine
2.Supervises the editor and layout editor
3.Ensures each issue is published on time
4.Communicates with the Board to solicit a President's column each issue and columns from other board members who wish to submit manuscripts
5.Produces an Editor's column each issue
6.Edits final copy
7.Solicits and edits articles for the Laboratory Series
8.Writes book reviews and annual Tilapia update
9.Handles editing of obituaries
10.Adds items to the calendar of upcoming aquaculture meetings
11.Proofs the printer’s work
12.Interested individuals should submit a letter that outlines their experience with and knowledge of aquaculture along with a summary of their editorial experience. Applicants should be a member of WAS, or be willing to become a member if selected for the position. Applicants should also include a copy of their vitae.
